I am in no way belittling the horrific events of the Holocaust.
Kurt Vonnegut, died on Tuesday, April 10th, in Manhattan at age 84. His death was reported by his wife, the author and photographer Jill Krementz, who said he had been hospitalized after suffering irreversible brain injuries as a result of a fall several weeks ago.
So it goes.
Global warming has been a really hot topic lately (sorry couldn’t resist the pun). The UN is putting together a letter stated in this news article via Yahoo! (Reuters), explaining that there is little time to avert big temperature changes here on Earth.
I strongly believe they are missing a bigger picture to this, what are we going to do when the average temperature is 10 degrees Celsius higher?
The fact that carbon monoxide causes hot are to be trapped in earths atmosphere is a theory. There isn’t enough proof that its what’s causing our temperature rise. The CO discharge from a volcano is huge, and Earth has been dealing with this for ever.
This is not a statement toward, should we or should we not, cut back our production of greenhouse gases, I am all for cleaner air and a better environment. Its a statement where I really don’t believe that even cutting all greenhouse gas production will make much of a difference and we need to plan on how we will be able to survive in our world with these much higher temperatures.
When my children are my age, this world will be very different. If this warming trend continues, things will be very different. I just hope that some planing is done for when 1/3 or more of America’s grasslands are nothing more than dirt and nothing can really live or grow there. What is the contingency plan for when reduction of the greenhouse gases just isn’t enough to slow the Earth’s warming?
I use a mobile device which runs Windows Mobile 5, a hand-held based OS which reminds me a lot of windows 95. Anyway, the default home page on the device has a link to the Windows Mobil home page, strangely enough, not very compatible at all with the browser which comes with Windows Mobile 5 (some hacked up version of IE 4 it seams). When I went to the site just now to verify the url, I noticed that there is a large flash area on the page. Mobile IE doesn’t support flash, nor does the site redirect you based on your browser type, so it is almost impossible to navigate around the page
I also receive an email once a month from the Microsoft Windows Mobile group, this email is sent in HTML which isn’t viewable by the mobile Outlook installed on the phone! Mostly what I see is many links to spacer.gif images.
I find this very strange that the mobile group, who are trying to promote their mobile services and offerings don’t support the applications the are promoting. One of the major reasons I have to device is so I may catch up on reading while commuting back and forth to work. Reading which can’t include Microsoft Windows Mobile information.
It’s the little things like this which drive customers away from a company. You either supply exemplary customer service, or you die in business. You think it doesn’t matter with a company like Microsoft? We will just wait and see. The Trio is looking very promising as my next hand-held.
Every year thousands of kids gather here and there to partake in a hunt for multi-colored plastic eggs filled with an array of goodies. This year my family and I went to a local church for a twenty-five thousand egg hunt. Man how would you like to fill all of them eggs, or more interesting, hide them? Well, there isn’t much “hunting” for eggs at these events, unless you consider shooting fish in a barrel, hunting. With so many eggs and so many kids, it’s more of an Egg Dash then a hunt. None the less, it is great fun for all, even in the thirty-five degree weather. Good thing hot chocolate and popcorn was available

For those of you who enjoy EVE Online, I have built some tools for you. Sure there are others out there like these, but there are mine. They contain:
- Skill Calculator, with end date
- End Date Calculator, based of days, hours, minutes, and seconds left in training
- Mining Calculator, for a selected miner, shows you your rate of mining based on your skills. Displays time required to mine all types of ore.
- Miner Yield, put in the installed yield of your miner(s) and find out how long you can fill a can and how many batches of ore you will have to refine.

I over slept two hours this morning, I can’ t believe it. I am sure I needed the rest, plus I blame my 20 year old alarm clock.
I find that it’s good for me the oversleep once in a while, it puts into prospective why the heck I wake up at 05:00 every morning. On a regular morning I will catch the 06:06 or 06:33 train into Chicago to go to work. I usually walk into my cube around 07:15, 07:30. It’s really not that bad of a commute, I park where I want at the train station, get a roomy seat on the train, there isn’t mobs of people on the street or waiting for the buses.
This morning, waking up at 07:00 is a totally different story. I made it to the train station around 07:30, no parking spots anywhere around the station. So I park a half-mile from there. It’s suppose to rain a lot today, so when I get home it should be interesting. The train arrived at 07:40, and we are the first stop for this one, so this part is cool, I was able to get a somewhat private seat, which is good for spreading out while writing coding on the train. We get into Chicago, and WOW, is there a lot of people about, I mean crammed. It’s now raining out, and having a mile trek to the office, I figured I would take the bus. I see everyone else it too, the line is sixty feet long! Good thing the buses can cram many people on them. The first bus filled up and we waited for a second, and that one filled up with me on it–Off to the office I go. Funny thing is, I woke up two hours late and still made it in before my systems administrator. 🙂
Well, all-in-all, not a horrible commute, anyone from New York is probably yelling, “You pansy, try the New York subways and The Path.”

In the end it’s good to be late once in a while, it keeps you in check on why the hell you wake up so darn early every morning.
Yes, can you believe it? The new host is working out for me. Feels nice to work with people who know what the heck is going on and what a developer likes in a host.
My host decision is with iHostASP.NET (Hosting for developers, by developers). It’s a shared hosting plan, so it doesn’t fit everything, but the areas it does are well done. They offer 3 levels of hosting, Standard, Developer, and Professional. I went middle of the road with the developer level. It includes all the standard host goodies, like, multiple domains, multiple domain subs, multiple user ftp access, asp.net 1.1 & 2.0, asp, php5, etc., etc. There are some really cool things they offer: 3 domains configured in separate spaces, that is separate application and memory pools. This was a big selling point for me. And better yet, 3 sql servers (size up to 10% of total storage 240MB), the biggest reason I chose them. I needed multiple databases. They do this because the site is bases on serving DotNetNuke, and the developer level if for three separate installations. Obviously, you don’t have to use DNN.
The allow 60 aliased domains with the mid-plan which can’t be pointed to other directories, you have to do this via code. Not a huge deal, I have ran into this with other hosts like CrystalTech and it’s an easy enough script to write. Not a real lot of control of iis, less than I would like, but I have found my way around every thing I have needed to do so far. They don’t have to richest offering but its pretty darn good, and the service and support has been excellent. I’ll write more as more info comes about.
